SAFFOS First Coaster Loading

In late May, Full-Pak’s SAFFOS machine performed to perfection in the German port of Hamburg, after the first loading to a coaster was successfully completed. SAFFOS, “Safe Fishmeal Free of Salmonella,” is more than just a machine: it is a concept that helps prevent the entrance of salmonella bacteria into the fishmeal that is transported from Chile or Peru to a final destination in Europe.

Ewos was Full-Pak’s first client to use a coaster to transport their fishmeal after it passed through Hamburg to be treated by the SAFFOS machine. After the fishmeal arriving by container from South America had been unloaded into the machine, it was treated with Luprocid (an organic acid provided by the BASF). The processed fishmeal was then loaded on the coaster to be taken to its final destination – Bergneset, Norway –where it arrived in perfect condition, free of salmonella.

With regard to this first operation to a coaster, Alvaro David, Full-Pak’s representative in Europe declared. “We are absolutely satisfied with the machine’s performance. It far exceeded our expectations. SAFFOS proved to be as efficient, clean and fast as we had planned. It was able to treat over 70 tons of fishmeal per hour. Of course, as with every new initiative, there are still some adjustments to be made, especially in terms of working in bad weather. Overall, it was very satisfying, especially seeing how the people at the port gathered around the machine to watch it work.”
